Grandmother Update
I went to Tulsa for four days, getting back yesterday evening -- my grandmother had surgery to remove what they suspected may be a cancerous growth. It turns out that it wasn't cancerous, and she came through the surgery okay -- this despite quite a few concerns on the doctors part. But just as everyone was beginning to celebrate, she had a bad reaction to the morphine they gave her for the pain. (I didn't even know they still used morphine!) 5 hours later, she was released from the operating room, but couldn't see anyone for several days while she recovered. Unfortunately, during this recovery period, she began to struggle with pneumonia.

We only got about an hour with her before we left on Wednesday -- she seems to be fighting it, but it still has everyone worried... :(

I hope she gets better soon. Hospitals seem to be the worse places to be when you are ill.

didn't even know they still used morphine!

They gave me morphine when I had Ada.

Wow man. I hope for her quick recovery. And I agree with [info]stuology hospitals are a pain.

I'm sending good vibes to your family.
And yes, they do still use morphine drips. And they have locks on the little box they put the vial in for the drip, so you can't take it home after being discharged.

I'm happy to hear it wasn't cancer, but so sorry to hear about the complications. I understand that hospitals are the most dangerous place to be when sick, so it's good to hear she's home.

Best wishes,
Chris
