Coolest... Training... Ever
So I'm sitting in Boulder, CO in a 5-person advanced perl class instructed by Tom Christiansen! (For those of you who don't know who this is:
Tom Christiansen has been involved with Perl since day zero of its initial public release in 1987. Lead author of the Perl Cookbook, coauthor of the second editions of Programming Perl and Learning Perl, and coauthor of Learning Perl on Win32 Systems, Tom is also the major caretaker of Perl's online documentation, coauthor of the Perl Frequently Asked Questions list, and president of The Perl Journal.

(A coworker of mine has likened learning perl from Tom to learning physics from Isaac Newton. That's a bit of an overstatement, but not much.) ;)

Tom is about the most laid-back guy I've ever met -- he didn't even introduce himself at the start of the class! (We had to look up pictures of him online to verify that he was who we thought.) ;) And the man knows everything. Not just about perl (which he knows inside and out) but anything. His class is littered with information from any number of other programming languages, as well as random bits of worldly trivia sprinkled in for flavor.

This is the first class (other than Diff Eq) that I've had to pay attention, or be lost. I've learned more about how perl works than I ever expected. This man kicks ass. ;)

Update:Okay, now I've seen it all. He apparently speaks fluent spanish as well. I don't have a clue what he said, but it was impressive to see him switch languages mid-lecture just for the fun of it. ;)

I'm jealous. I actually missed hearing him speak him at one of the Linux user groups when I was up there. Have fun in Boulder!
